Liability and corporate sail events
In Dutch law, a company outing is an activity associated with work. The employer is responsible for good employment and has a duty to care for the security in the context of work and may be liable for damages that occur during that activity.
A sail event as a team outing may fall under the heading of 'work', under the condition that there is sufficient connection between the activity and the employment injury.
This is also the case if a business event takes place on board a sailing ship.
So no sailing with your team? On the contrary! In the Netherlands transport is subjected to stringent regulations. Especially sailing ships and their crews are under strict quality inspections. Thus, a corporate sailing event actually is an excellent choice!
